Green Island Jetty

Artificial Reef Modules
The Problem
Degraded Jetty in a Class A Marine Reserve

The existing timber jetty at Green Island, Rottnest Island had reached the end of its serviceable life. Deteriorated piles and structural elements posed safety risks to marine users and environmental concerns within a highly protected Class A Marine Reserve. Commercial Maritime was engaged to undertake the controlled demolition and complete removal of the structure.

The Solution
Subsea Cutting and Structural Removal

The scope of works involved the complete removal of all marine piles and associated jetty infrastructure. Commercial Maritime’s specialist dive team executed controlled decommissioning works, carefully managing underwater cutting and extraction to minimise disturbance to surrounding sediments and sensitive marine flora and fauna. Each pile was rigged, and lifted by crane onto support vessels for removal from site. A systematic extraction methodology ensured the full demolition of the obsolete structure at Rottnest Island, while maintaining strict environmental management protocols.

The Result
Decommissioned and Responsibly Recycled

All recovered timber materials were recycled in coordination with the Rottnest Island Authority, ensuring the works aligned with sustainable waste management practices. The successful completion of the project reinforces Commercial Maritime’s capability to deliver complex marine demolition in environmentally sensitive locations, combining underwater operations, disciplined marine logistics, and responsible environmental stewardship.
