Matilda Bay Pontoon

Artificial Reef Modules
The Problem
Deteriorating Pontoon Infrastructure at Matilda Bay

The existing pontoon structure at Matilda Bay showed signs of wear across both its subsea mooring system and deck surface. Eroded chains and shackles compromised anchoring integrity, while aged decking boards had deteriorated due to prolonged marine exposure.Commercial Maritime was engaged to undertake a combined subsea inspection, maintenance, and surface works to ensure the ongoing safety and integrity of the Matilda Bay pontoon infrastructure. To maintain public safety and ensure structural compliance, the pontoon required a full inspection of subsea apparatus, replacement of critical mooring components, and renewal of the deck surface.

The Solution
Asset Remediation and Deck Replacement

The project scope commenced with a detailed subsea inspection of all underwater apparatus and anchor points. Assessment identified wear and degradation across mooring chains and shackles, requiring targeted replacement to restore system integrity. Eroded components were removed and replaced with compliant marine-grade hardware, with works completed to achieve 12-month certification of the repaired anchoring system.

In addition to underwater remediation, Commercial Maritime undertook the full disassembly, removal, disposal and replacement of approximately 210 square metres of existing decking. New MaxiGRATE micro mesh decking was supplied and installed using stainless steel screws, washers and marine-grade fixings to ensure structural durability and long-term performance within the marine environment.

The Result
Certified Anchoring and Renewed Deck Surface

Commercial Maritime completed a comprehensive subsea inspection of all anchoring apparatus and connection points, identifying wear across chains and shackles. Eroded components were removed and replaced, restoring system integrity and achieving 12-month certification.

Above water, approximately 210sqm of deteriorated decking was disassembled, removed and responsibly disposed of. New MaxiGRATE micro mesh decking was supplied and installed with stainless steel fixings, delivering a durable, low-maintenance solution suited to marine exposure.
